Children’s
Activities
We
are always in need of exciting and fun projects for the children and youth
living at the YWCA and in our childcare. Volunteers are needed to either:
-
Put
together boxes containing all needed supplies for staff to carry out a
particular craft or project with the youth and children. Please supply
enough for 20 children or youth to participate.
-
Come
in and lead the children or youth in the project of your choice.
Life
Skills Classes
Instruction: Life
Skills classes are offered the residents of the YWCA on an ongoing basis.
We are looking for individuals to lead a class, which is attended by 10-15
women. Past classes range in
topics from budgeting and self-esteem to card making and nutrition.
Baby-sit:
The YW is in need of mature individuals to baby-sit during evening life
skills classes.
Computer
Classes
A
computer lab is located at the YWCA. We have need for trained
professionals to conduct computer classes in Microsoft Applications.
Classes generally last an hour and are held in the evenings. A laptop and
projector are available.
Pick-up
and Deliver Donations
The YWCA is often the recipient of generous furniture donations from local
community members. We need volunteers who can pick-up the donations and
deliver them to YW clients in need. A case manager would coordinate the
delivery and be present at the time of delivery.
Clothing
Bank
The YWCA has a clothing boutique that is available to those who
participate in YW programs and services. We need committed individuals
able to come periodically and organize the clothing boutique. This would
entail sorting through newly donated items, storing out-of-season clothing
and organizing already existing clothing.
Holiday
Donation Program
November - December 2006
The YWCA receives and wraps hundreds of donated Christmas gifts throughout
the month of December. The gifts are distributed to families participating
in YW programs and services. We need volunteers for the following:
-
Data Entry
-
Accept gift donations
-
Organize and sort donated
gifts.
-
Wrap gifts.
Mother’s
Day Cards
March – May 2007
The YWCA of Greater Harrisburg has created and sold an original Mother’s
Day card for the past 10 years. Each year the YWCA selects an image to
grace the front of the card from works submitted by local artists.
Volunteers sell the cards for $10 and all proceeds benefit programs and
services offered at YWCA.
Race
Against Racism
Saturday, April 28, 2007
This 5K run/walk demonstrates the YW's commitment to racial equality
and opportunity, and seeks to raise awareness of issues related to race in
our community.
We need volunteers in the following:
-
Stuff packets and fold
t-shirts.
-
Prepare race numbers.
-
Staff information table at
Strawberry Square.
-
Help on Race day
(directing runners, registration table, food table, etc.)
Health
and Safety Fairs
The
YWCA is asked to participate in numerous local Health and Safety Fairs
throughout the year. We need volunteers for the following:
-
Assist
with planning and soliciting items when needed.
-
Help
set-up the day of the event.
-

at the YW table.
