On Saturday, April 29, the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg sponsored the second Harrisburg-area Race Against Racism.  This 5K run/walk demonstrates the YW's commitment to racial equality and opportunity, and seeks to raise awareness of issues related to race in our community.  All net proceeds from the Race will support existing and new programs dedicated to eliminating racism.

Over 400 people ran or walked on a clear, blue Spring day.
Ron Martin from WGAL and Commissioner George Hartwick, III welcomed participants and started the race at Kunkel Plaza.

The race route followed the Susquehanna river.

Mr. William Wright of the John C. Kunkel Foundation pledged $10 for every participant who completed the event before him. Volunteers did their best to slow him down! Below, race chair Felicia Brown-Haywood does her best to delay Mr. Wright by posing for the "paparazzi".
Along the route,  Mr. Wright helps out-of-towners find Broad Street Market.
Another delay tactic - autograph hounds get Mr. Wright's John Hancock.
Monetary prizes were given to the top 3 male and female competitors.

First place winners, Bill Maloney and Jill Starliper and WGAL's Ron Martin.
And gift certificates were given to Marshall Hoskins and Libby Bechtel,
the top boy and girl 12 and under.
See your time!
