The YWCA Greater Harrisburg is pleased to partner with the Pennsylvania State Police to host their Citizen’s Police Academy this fall. This program is focused on expanding community member’s knowledge and understanding of the law and PA State Police procedures.

Having completed a series of law enforcement trainings this spring, the YWCA sees this as an opportunity to provide education to the community. This dovetails with the YWCA’s ongoing work with law enforcement and community partners on its Criminal Justice & Community Relations Taskforce, with the goal of strengthening police-community relations in our region.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is a 10-week series in which participants meet each Wednesday night from 6:00pm to 8:00pm starting October 7 and ending December 9. All sessions will take place at the YWCA in the Highmark Room, and participants must attend at least 75 percent of the sessions in order to graduate and receive a certificate.

To apply, you must be 18 years of age and a resident of Pennsylvania. Applications can be accessed electronically (see below) or picked up at the PA State Police Harrisburg Station (8000 Bretz Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17112).

If you have questions or would like to apply, please contact Trooper Asbury (easbury@pa.gov) or Trooper Garcia (agarcia@pa.gov) – both can be reached by phone at 717-264-5161. The deadline for application submissions is September 23, and class size is limited.
