Black History Month READ-IN
The YWCA held a READ-IN for Black History Month to celebrate the impact and legacy of African American authors past and present.
In the morning, local author and "Superreader" Floyd Stokes read his books to our daycare children, which was fun and interactive for the kids and adults!
Throughout the afternoon, YWCA staff took turns reading - sharing the words of historical greats like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Frederick Douglass, as well as contemporary writers such as Maya Angelou and Iyanla Vanzant. There was a lot of passion in the room as people read and listened to words of struggle and of hope, and we look forward to continuing the tradition next year.
